Updates

1. I’ll post this at Ticklish Giggles later, too, but I wanted to get this out there. I had my appointment with my OB to discuss my diabetes this morning. He has put me on glyburide since I’m only four weeks away from delivery. He said it’s pointless to attempt insulin at this point because by the time we got the dosage regulated, the baby would already be out and the problem solved.

He’s put me on the lowest possible dose of the glyburide and I will take the pill once a day before breakfast. That’s easy! He said within a day or two we should see my fasting glucose numbers drop into the 80s, which is where he would like for them to be. The kicker is that one of the ingredients in the medicine is bactrum, to which I am allergic (I get hives). He thinks I should be OK since it’s a small amount in the medicine and he’s giving me the lowest dose, but that I’m to watch for hives over the weekend. If I get them, he’ll take me off the meds and we’ll figure out something else. I’m thinking that means that we’ll just have to live with my borderline numbers until birth. The good thing is I only have to take this drug for one month.

He checked the baby’s heartbeat for fun and got a kicked for good measure. What I love about this particular doctor is his pure enjoyment of the kicks when he examines the belly. He laughs out loud all the time in response.

Anyway, I go back on Monday for my regular check up and he expects we’ll know then whether or not the medicine is working.

2. I’m starting to feel slightly panicked at all that still needs to get done at work before I’m out for two months. My back up is doing great, but she still needs a lot of coaching on a few things. And I think I’ll be clocking in occasionally while on maternity leave for a few tasks that are too tedious to bother training her on since they only occur one time a month - it’ll be easy enough for me to just log on to do them from home.

3. I need to post about the bizarre nightmare that looped all night last night and then the final one-time dream right before I woke up this morning. I’ll have to post those tales later.
