It is super quiet in the office this week and today especially. It kinda stinks.
I have monthly close out of the books tomorrow - early since it is the end of the quarter. Part of my monthly close out tasks is to clear out prisoner medical obligations - there is a whole long, boring explanation about them that I won’t bother you with. Every once in a while something catches my eye when I check the obligations report to see which ones I need to huck. Today it was the description, “hearing voices,” which was the reason reason given for the medical request. In this case therapy was provided. And he was probably prescribed meds to quell the voices. Lord, give me strength.
Want to talk about our seeming national healthcare problem? Let’s start with the billions of bucks that are spent on federal prisoners every year. At least we (the taxpayers) only pay Medicare rates.
Or let’s not, because even though the U.S. has the largest proprotion of its populace incarcerated, it’s still only 1% of the population and fixing out healthcare problem in the jails and prisons won’t make as much of a dent as fixing it for the other 99%.
