The Weekend
We hit the road on Friday at about 3:30pm and after a long drive finally made it to the Cooties‘ house at around midnight. Jesse is a great traveler - he never cried, slept quite a bit, played by himself, and was a trooper for the long car ride. Our dinner stop was longer than planned - he was greatly distracted by everything in the restaurant and took longer to eat than normal, but it was nice to have the break from driving. He was equally easy on the drive home yesterday so it wasn’t a fluke. Makes me worry less about our long drive to Orlando in May.
Saturday was a long day of prepping for the party. But before I get to the party, I have to say that Annie made the night’s sleep short - we hit the hay at about 1am with Annie in the crate in the living room. She, as is her wont, started barking to be let out at about 5am on Saturday. I got up to let her out and then decided to bring her to the bedroom with me. Her loud panting woke up Jesse, who wanted to play instead of go back to sleep. So I took him downstairs to try to get a little more shut eye in the recliner. He eventually dozed off, as did I, but then Jaynee came down and turned on the lights in the kitchen waking us up again. I hauled us back up where Beau took Jesse so that I could try to go back to bed for a little while, but that was a no go. I was awake.
So we worked on getting things ready for the party and then managed to get a nice 90 minute nap in the afternoon. That’s a good thing because I don’t think I would have made it to the end of the fabulous party otherwise. Click the link for the party recap. And you can see a few pics here. What surprised me most? Their church friends were the rowdiest of the bunch.
Annie slept in the crate in the garage that night, but again with the barking at 5:30am. This time Beau got up to let her out and then put her food dish in the crate with her before he came back to bed. That didn’t work for her, she wanted OUT, so I went down to let her out and tried to crash for extra sleep on the sofa. She wanted to run laps, which she did for a long time (yes, she’s OLD, but you’d never know it in those moments). I eventually fell asleep again, but I think it was maybe 30 minutes because CootieBoy and Denis came down. I went back upstairs to try to sleep for a while longer, but Jesse woke up when the panting dog came in. So that was it for Mama’s sleep. Fortunately, there was plenty of good coffee.
We were waiting for ECD and Holly to arrive to pick up Annie when my dad called to let us know that his mom was in the hospital and needing surgery for an obstructed bowel. So instead of heading to H’burg to surprise Beau’s former church friends, we headed to the hospital to visit my grandmother on the way home. Her surgery was successful, but she’ll be a while recovering. For a 94 year old woman, she’s in rather good health, and should recover fine. It was good to see her and my aunt and uncles, too. I’m glad we went.
So now we’re dogless. Annie was transferred over to the custody of ECD and Holly yesterday after we had a nice breakfast together. She’s gone to a great home with folks who will love and spoil her in her final years.
Overall, a great and tiring weekend. It was nice to sleep in (7:15am!) this morning.
I love how Annie has “gone South for retirement.”
