The Busy Eases Up
Ok, so we survived last week. We’re both exhausted, but we survived.
Here’s a bit of random:
1. Yesterday our church launched a new way of coordinating small groups - Group Link. I wasn’t sure how it was going to work, but I thought it went pretty well. We have 8 people in our group so far, which leaves 4 spots still open (groups are limited to 12 people max). We have a mixed adult group so we have three married couples and two single women. One couple is really new to the church, having just starting with us in March, and according to them they have never been in a small group. We have no clue where they are spiritually, but they seemed excited to join us, so that’s good. Our first group meeting will be next Wednesday. The first 8 weeks is geared toward building our community and the church has provided a booklet to help steer initial conversations to building our relationships. After the 8 weeks, folks have the opportunity to bail if they feel it isn’t a good fit another Group Link is in January and at that point groups are “locked in” and committed to meet together for at least 18 months. From the short time we were huddled together last night I think we have a group that will be fun and will lock in after the 8 weeks.
2. Got home from picking up Jesse at my parents’ to discover that Annie had befouled her crate again. *sigh* She was down to two towels at that point. After cleaning it all up, she got one towel last night and I was thisclose to taking her to the pound this morning. Beau woke her up when he got up earlier than normal to find a snoozing dog and clean crate. That was a nice change for the morning - I got to drink my coffee and read for a bit before having to do anything else. So the dog remains for today. But I’m completely fed up with her and I’m sure I’ll threaten the pound for the rest of her days.
3. In my email this morning was a memo from HQ about the audit - based on errors the accountants found we now have to do a mini-audit post fiscal year close out. *sigh* Fortunately, the deadline for samples to be sent to HQ is next Tuesday, so I’ll be able to meet their deadline without having to change my work-at-home schedule. But man, we’ve got problems in the auditing department.
Now I’m getting back to work.
Glad the small group looks like it’ll turn out well! :)
Hoping this week is a little less hectic for you, too.

Posted by on 09/24/07 at 10:50 AMI think what you are going through with Annie is to be expected. I went through the same thing with Skipper when he was 14 or so, but he would (almost) always toddle off to the newspaper I had spread out for him.
Posted by on 09/24/07 at 12:37 PMI think that Annie’s problem is not that she’s rebelling against the crate, it’s that the poor thing doesn’t have the bladder of a 5 year old dog! She’s ancient, for heaven’s sake. She probably holds it AS LONG AS SHE CAN but has to go at some point. Seems to me like 5-6 hours is the MOST she can go in that crate without being let outside. So you may want to consider a switch-off schedule for you and Beau to get up early specifically to let her out. Don’t threaten her with the Pound when it’s your own unwillingness to get up early to take her outside to do her business.
Posted by Jaynee on 09/24/07 at 01:20 PMMaybe, but when both Beau and I are at work she sleeps the whole day with no walking and no accidents. That’s a 9-10 hour day. We walk her before we go to bed and wake up when she starts barking (this morning was unusual in that Beau woke up earlier than normal on his own and got up before she started barking). She barks at random times of the morning, too - there have been some mornings that she didn’t make a peep until 6:30 or so. How early am I supposed to get up? I already get up at 5 or 5:30.
