Swamped
I’m working, working, working. My inbox and desk chair were full of things accumulated in my 10 days away from the office. Fortunately, after sorting it all it turns out not to be unmanageable. I should be able to get caught up in my three days in the office this week. I have a new, large stack of prisoner medical that I’ll work on at home on Friday and Monday.
What I’m glad to report is that I do feel refreshed and relaxed post-vacation. Getting away, even with the busy-ness and heat of the days at the parks, was exactly what I needed.
Now we’re preparing for the California trip. It’s unlikely that we’ll get a timeshare unit at this point, so we’re looking into hotels for the week. And I’m trying to figure out what of Jesse’s crapola we actually need to take with us and whether or not we should ship some of it out there before flying out so that we don’t have to deal with hauling it onto the plane. Anyone traveled across country with a toddler that can give recommendations either way?
My suggestion for hotels is to try Priceline in San Luis Obispo first. SLO is the only town in the area that will have chain hotels that participate on Priceline. Barring that, don’t overlook Motel 6 in SLO or Morro Bay...I know they’re not the most luxurious but they’ve been remodeled and in beach towns, the expensive hotels are not any nicer...seriously (unless you want to spend $300-$500/night). You can get a room at Motel 6 for $50-$60/night.

And I was able to talk Beau into buying a toddler travel bed for Jesse, too. It’s like a cute little pup-tent.

Posted by Gwynne on 06/03/08 at 09:41 PMWe travelled with two children under the age of four (!) several years ago. We flew to Indiana for my sister-in-law’s wedding. Both kids were in car seats, etc. (You can imagine the amount of STUFF we were hauling onto the airplane.) We brought along only the essentials, then spent $10 - $20 at a local thrift store for toys, books, etc. that we fully intended to donate back and leave behind when we went back home. Worked very well!
