Sharpe’s… and Danger: UXB

I’ve been watching the Sharpe’s… miniseries on DVD from the mid-90s over the past several months. I just watched episode 4: Sharpe’s Enemy. The series stars pre-Boromir Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe. The series is based on the series of novels by Bernard Cornwell. (Anyone read them? Are they worth reading?) I’m enjoying the DVDs even though they are sorely dated and have a relatively low production value.

Next up in the player is volume 1 of Danger: UXB. I’m going to try to watch a couple episodes before The 4400 tonight.

  1. I love Sharpe! I hope to get the DVDs one day since it’s been many years since its aired around here.

  2. Cornwell’s Sharpe novels are good reading—-more than a few late nights ‘cause I couldn’t put ‘em down—-and they give the air of being well-researched. On the other hand, since my knowledge of the Napoleonic period starts with Wellington and ends with Waterloo, he could have very well announced Napoleon’s intention to use atomic weapons in Spain and I’d barely be the wiser.

The big thing I remember is that the novels were, over the course of time, formulaic. It might do to read them one by one over the course of several months, so that you don’t get confused as to which devilish French intelligence officer has captured which of Sharpe’s girlfriends.

That is way too funny. LOL
