Pet Food

I feel like a terrible pet owner. Not only have the dog and cat been relegated to dog and cat status since the arrival of Jesse, I’ve barely paid attention to the pet food recall. I mean, I’ve made note of the terrible stories of renal failure and that there are probably way more deaths than have been reported. But we feed our pets dry food. At least that’s what I was thinking until the cat puked the other day and it occurred to me that we do feed the cat canned food. And then I heard that there were new recalls. So I did a bit of checking on the stuff we buy and so far I think we’re OK.

We use Beneful dry for dogs, which according to the Purina website is not affected by the recall.

We use 9 Lives canned for the cat, which is also not on any of the recall lists.

We do give the cat treats, but we dump them into a canister so I have no clue what brand they are. I did just replenish that canister, so I’m tempted to throw them out just in case, but the cat seems fine.

  1. I kept meaning to ask you about their food ~ Cooper’s, too. Cooper’s mom, have you check your dog’s food?

  2. This is terribly frightening.  But our princess’ food is safe as well.  At least so far.

  3. For some reason I was never worried about it since all I heard was that it was canned food. I completely forgot about the cat. I’m relieved to know that his food is OK - I hate to think that my blasé attitude could have resulted in a sick or dead pet.

  4. I checked the pets’ food a few weeks ago and it was safe, but they keep adding new brands to the recall, so I’m no longer sure if we’re okay. The animals seem fine.
