Minor Blogging Peeves
Two things that bug me in the blog world…
1. It bugs me when I go through my blogroll and discover that blogs that have not been updated are showing as updated merely because someone left a comment. A comment is not a true blog update, imho.
2. I’m becoming seriously anti-Twitter. Twittering is not blogging, imho. I don’t want to read your Twitter list. Pick one or the other.
I’m with you 100% on this twitter stuff. What are we 12 years old again? Arghhhhh!!!! I don’t need any twitter rss feeds sent to me. That will make me unsubscribe real soon. Thanks for sharing my opinion.
Posted by on 06/24/08 at 11:55 AMHmm...now, I’m not putting my tweets in my blog proper—so it shouldn’t be showing up as a post. Hopefully you’re not complaining about me. :) I kinda like twitter, but that’s mostly because I find texting to be fun...it’s like passing notes in class. But, there are some who post twitter updates to their main blog and then spam up my reader, and that I do find slightly annoying, esp. if I subscribe to the twitter feed already.
I subscribe to my own blog in my reader just to make sure stuff posts, and I’m not seeing my tweets - but if you are, would you let me know? I don’t wanna be annoying!
Posted by beth on 06/24/08 at 01:50 PMI just started on Twitter, and I like it pretty well.
Is it okay if I list my Twitter updates in my sidebar? Or is that not what you’re talking about?Posted by Jared on 06/24/08 at 01:51 PMI had a brief love affair with twitter, but it doesn’t actually, you know, *work* often enough to suit me. LOL.
Posted by Deb on 06/24/08 at 02:00 PMTwitter in the sidebar is OK - I can ignore sidebar stuff easily (and usually do). Twitter posts = fingernails on a chalkboard.
I don’t RSS feed my blog reading at all, by the way. I’m old school that way.
Posted by jen on 06/24/08 at 02:42 PMJen, move into 2008, please. Go with reading your blogs via RSS feed.
1) It helps you avoid thinking your blogroll blogs have been updated when they haven’t and
2) You don’t feel like you’ve “wasted your time” (what, all of 5 seconds tops?) clicking over to an “updated” blog and merely seeing a Twitter roundup post or a comment.
By the way - would you rather read a 100+ word post about how I hated my lunch, or would you rather have it take up a small piece of real estate in my sidebar in 30 words or less? I daresay it’s the latter. I know *I* hate reading
yourposts about what was eaten for lunch.Posted by Jaynee on 06/25/08 at 12:27 PMThanks for the condescension.
Posted by jen on 06/25/08 at 01:12 PMHeh. Yeah, right back at you since I know the Twitter stuff was snark directed towards me.
Posted by Jaynee on 06/25/08 at 02:51 PMOnly partly. There are several who have started tweeting instead of blogging.
Posted by jen on 06/25/08 at 03:31 PMAh, but I’m still blogging. But now I’m putting the non-essential quick stuff in the Twitter box instead of feeling obligated to come up with 100+ words when 10-15 will suffice.
And the Twitter list that was creating posts was apparently a setting in the plugin that I didn’t see, but has since been turned off because I didn’t like it either.
