LOST 3: Honesty is Such a Lonely Word Edition

Another good episode last night. This season is definitely shaping up to be a good one.

  1. Hen-Ben is totally going to win that battle. He’s already shown himself more than Jack’s match in a battle of wits - evidence how he completely owned everyone but Sayid when he was their prisoner in the hatch. The only person more snowed over by Ben than Jack was Locke.

I like Benry - I think he’s going to end up a more sympathetic and less evil character than he currently appears. But we’ll see.

  2. I think one of the keys to understanding Benry, was after his mask was removed how angry he was a Ana Lucia about the loss of his men.  I think the show may lead in the direction that Ben holds the interests of the Dharmalars very high, and the reason he’s manipulating the Crashies will fall in line with all the other manipulations in this show.

  3. My theory about “Chachi” being a plant gets blown to smithereens. Did he have an improvised lockpick, or a key supplied by Alex?

On their way back, will Sayid, Jin and Sun find the Others village, or the work detail with Sawyer and Kate? They have at least two guns - three if Sun managed to hold on to her pistol.

Assuming he’s at least into his thirties, Benry was born before the construction of the Question Mark hatch (its age assessed by the existence of the early-tech VCR), and possibly before the construction of the Swan Hatch, which was built after 1969 (the release year of “Make Your Own Kind of Music,” the song playing when the Losties first met Desmond) and before the advent of VCRs (the orientation film is a film, not a video). Are there older installations where Benry’s mom was a Dharma subject - or Dharma employee - or was Mom there for the first phase of Dharma’s construction?

Are Benry and Juliet brother and sister? Her mom is old enough to have a son Benry’s age…

Theory: the Others overthrew the local oversight of the Dharma Initiative, and are fooling the off-island overseers (the “real enemy” that Benry alluded to when talking to Jack) into thinking that operations are normal, with fake communications or whatever. Assuming that the Others were in control at the time of the kidnapping of Alex (guesstimated at 1986-1988), the revolt would have to have occurred by then. Either that, or the Dharma Initiative nabbed her, and she was present for the Others uprising.

Wild prediction: there’ll be a flashback of one of the Others that provides a few clues and shows Kelvin getting sucked into the Initiative.

  4. One more thought: since the plane was 1000 miles off course, something drew the plane to the island well before the Swan countdown reached zero. Assuming a standard cruising speed of 550 mph…

Oh, this is too good. The plane started to veer off course 109.09 minutes before it exploded. Allow a minute for flying directly over the island prior to explosion and you get the magic number of 108 minutes, the sum of the Hurley numbers and the time of one complete cycle of the Swan countdown.
