It’s 4 AM

Clock reads 4:08am. There’s a clanging noise that breaks the silence.

Me: What was that?

Beau: I don’t know.

He gets up and grabs the flashlight and his gun. He keeps both by the bed.

While he’s gone exploring, thoughts roll around my head. What made that noise? It sounded like it could have been the trash can in the kitchen. Did the leash fall off the freezer and hit it? Did the sound come through the baby monitor? OMG, Jesse!

Me: Check Jesse. Check Jesse. Jesse.

I was almost yelling. Beau was coming back up the stairs and I jumped out of bed.

Me: Check Jesse.

I had horrible thoughts of kidnappers coming through his window.

I passed Beau in the hallway on my way to Jesse’s room. I flipped the switch in Beau’s bathroom and pulled the door almost shut, leaving just enough light to see into Jesse’s room. Inside, he sat up, gave me a sweet smile, and flopped back down on his back - still sound asleep. I pulled his blankets out from under him to cover him back up. And gave a sigh of relief.

Beau: He’s OK?

Me: Yeah, I thought maybe the noise came through the monitor. Did the leash fall onto the trash can?

Beau: No.

I tried to go back to sleep. No go. So I’ve been up since then; I got out of bed at about 4:30am when Annie started barking.

In the kitchen I had the thought that maybe it was the grill out on the deck. I looked at it, but it didn’t look like it had been moved. But maybe an animal tried to get to the grease trap hanging underneath it? We have no clue.

  1. It was probably an animal or the wind. But the lesson to learn here is we should all be packing more heat. Note to Jaynee: my birthday is coming up and I’ve always wanted a glock. Take that you Commie liberals with your Second Amendment busting. You’re not going to take me alive. Do you sense the sarcasm in this post? Just glad everyone is okay. I could have just deleted this before I pressed submit and saved everyone a few seconds of their lives they will never get back.

  4. Weird...we were woken several times that night by the dog barking at scary noises… something clawing at our siding or something. As with you, we never did figure out where the noise was coming from.

    Glad you’re ok!
