I’ll Give Her to You for Free

Anyone want a dog? Because I’m done with dealing with mine and I can’t take her to the pound.

I’m only half kidding.

So we bought the crate to corral the peeing, which has been a long-standing psychological war that she and I have fought for 16 years. She’s winning, of course. The peeing has gotten worse since the arrival of Jesse. She’s jealous. I know this. I understand - she’s not getting nearly the attention she used to get.

And she’s old, although she can go all day without peeing on the carpet when I’m at the office, so her peeing is not an incontinence issue. No, sir.

With the addition of the crate came the poo. Pretty much every morning when I go down to let her out she’s both peed and pooped in the crate. I’m done. Done. Done. Done with having to clean out the poop from the crate every stinking morning. Every. Morning.

The kicker was last night after we got home from church. We had put her in the crate. Got home and from the top of the stairs to the basement we could smell it. I told Beau not to even bother taking her for a walk before bed. Just let her live in it overnight, which we did. We fell asleep to a chorus of barking, because she knew we were home and ignoring her.

We both woke up at 4:30am when Jesse cried in his sleep. Both of us were out of bed before we realized that we both had gotten up. He went to Jesse while I went to the bathroom. That was a mistake because the rushing water with the flush woke up Annie and not 5 minutes later the barking started again. I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep, but at 5am I gave in and got up for good.

This morning’s crate clean up resulted in me throwing out the blanket that was in there - there was poop so embedded in it that I wasn’t putting that in the washer, no matter how much bleach went in with it. She gets towels only at this point. And when I get sick of cleaning up the towels? (I’m already sick of the whole thing, actually. I mean when I get sicker of it.) She gets the bare tray.

Did I mention that I’m done?

So if you want to take pity on a 19 year old dog who needs a better mom than I, let me know.

  1. As I said, I’m sort of kidding. I have no plans to give the dog away, because I’m compulsive about her and I just can’t inflict her brand of annoyance on another person.

  2. Oh poor you and poor Annie! How frustrating - especially when you know she gets it and is just being stubborn.

  3. If you opt for the “not kidding” side - how on earth do you think she’d adjust to going to a brand new house and surroundings?  Uh...she wouldn’t!

Try getting the wee-wee pads from the pet store.  They are disposable so you can throw them out.  You can probably buy them in bulk on eBay.

  4. Jaynee, I think my almost 16 year old dog is ready for the wee-wee pads.  He’s making me nuts because I think he actually is becoming incontinent and has peed a couple times on my recliner and on my couch.  Funny how he can be on my lap for hours when I fall asleep on the recliner at night and not pee at all, though ... hmmmmm

Ever since he had Canine Peripheral Vestibular Syndrome last spring (after Annie had it) he has definitely had problems.

  5. I’e tried the wee wee pads. She pees next to them. Or shreds them.

I’m not giving her away because I know it would be too stressful for her and whomever took her. Unless it was family and I’m not foisting her on you or Mom and Dad.

So I’m stuck with her until she kicks.
