Goin’ Back to Cali
So now we’re actively working on the California trip and have finalized a few things this week already:
1. We will be staying with Beau’s uncle near Santa Barbara for the first two nights - this saves money, of course, which is nice. But it also gives us some nice time to visit with him. And we’ll add a tour of something touristy for that area on our first full day before we head north to San Luis Obispo.
Related: We’ll be shipping some needed Jesse-items for the week directly to Uncle W. Already we have bought and shipped a PeaPod Toddler Bed/Tent to him. We figure this was a good investment for future travel, too, and it will give Jesse his own little pup tent to play with/in whenever he wants.
2. We have booked a room at a Motel 6 that happens to be across the street from Beau’s high school for the rest of the week. Much cheaper (about half the cost, actually) than anything else we found, so thanks for that tip, Gwynne. We didn’t have need for a cushy place since we’ll only be sleeping there anyway.
3. Beau’s Mom has scheduled a dessert with some friends for one night so that folks can meet me and Jesse. Beau is well loved, so people are curious about the chick who snagged him. I have no doubt that Jesse’s charming self will outshine Beau’s bride and that is just fine with me.
4. I’m starting to look into what we want to do on our outings. We know that we want to go to Hearst Castle - I’ve been there, but it’s been 25 years. We know that we’ll spend a day in the Monterey area - I need to figure out specific things we want to do (including a possible meet up with Ith?) besides a visit to the aquarium.
Don’t forget to go to Rappa’s on the pier in Monterey for their delish Clam Chowder and Sourdough bread. Yum!

Posted by jen on 06/05/08 at 10:40 AMand I think Solvang might be fun on the way from Santa Barbara to my folks. See the guide at the visitors bureau: http://www.solvangusa.com
Posted by on 06/05/08 at 11:06 AMThere’s also Cannery Row in Monterey, which is near the aquarium.

Posted by on 06/05/08 at 12:50 PMSounds like a fun and full vacation. I wish I was going to be there, so I could also meet the “chick who snagged him,” and your charming son, in real life!
Posted by gwynne on 06/05/08 at 01:57 PMIt would be great to meet you, too!
Posted by jen on 06/05/08 at 02:02 PMSolvang is a lot of fun. I love it there. Also, if you do make it to Hearst Castle, I recommend the garden tour if you are bringing Jesse along, as it has the least steps and stairs (and it’s my favorite tour). Morro Bay and Cayucos are like my favorite places in the world, so I’d recommend a stop there too, and the Mission in San Luis Obispo is nice place to stop. They used to have a pretty good museum there. And if you’re looking for a place to eat in SLO, I love Margie’s Diner (best breakfast anywhere and an entertaining menu to boot… wish they hadn’t closed the diner in Morro Bay, though). Can you tell I’m excited FOR you? Hmmm, maybe I’ll drag my hubby up the coast this summer, too....
Posted by caltechgirl on 06/05/08 at 02:35 PMctg, if you feel like dragging your hubby up the coast, then try to do it while we’re there and maybe we can get together for lunch/dinner or something. Let’s email…
