Friday Stuff
1. I remembered #5 from yesterday - just a general complaint that my lower back is already hurting after sitting for too long. I fear the pain yet to come as the baby gets larger. Oy.
2. On the debate, I am ashamed to say that we turned it off about 40 minutes in. I was worried because she kept ignoring the moderator questions to discuss her own agenda items. I didn’t think that would work well. Turns out that I was wrong and should have stuck with it, apparently. I think he was completely charmed by her, as well and I like that he openly laughed when she was funny, even at his own expense.
3. *$’s Signature Hazelnut Hot Chocolate is deadly good stuff. Just a subtle hint of the hazelnut with the rich chocolate - it reminds me of Nutella. Which reminds me, Beau was supposed to buy me a jar of Nutella. Honey, will you add that to the grocery list, please? [ADDED LATER] Also, please add hummus and pita bread. Thanks!
4. We get our FIOS installed on Tuesday. I’m very excited!
You are very right about Palin not answering many of the questions she was asked. Why?Because she didn’t know the answers.
They both came off better than expected. All she had to do was not look like an idiot again and she would look better. He had to appear less smart-a** and less liberal. Both of which I think he did.
He’s obviously much more presidential than her. She even admitted it in one of her answers saying, “...how long have I been at this? Like, five weeks?” I know she’s not running for President, but if the old man gets in office and his ticker goes, look what we’ll be left with. I didn’t think they get dumber than George, but maybe it’s so. At least she doesn’t appear to be as evil and lawless as Bush.
I’m not worried. Doesn’t look like we’re going to have to worry about Palin (or McCain) for much longer.
Obama in ‘08. Get used to him. You’ll be seeing a lot of him in the next eight years. There’s a big mess to clean up. Thanks, Bush.
Posted by on 10/03/08 at 09:25 AMHey Denis,
Put the “five weeks” into context. She was saying that she didn’t have to backtrack on anything she’d promised because of the financial crisis. She’d only been campaigning for five weeks.
Even better, she promised to do what was right. Unlike the Dems’ “tax and tax, spend and spend,” doing the Right thing isn’t measured in spending dollars.
On the other hand, “fairness” for Obama/Biden is all about money--take from some to give to others. That’s Roosevelt’s “tax and tax, spend and spend” campaign strategy.
Posted by Beau on 10/03/08 at 10:45 AMLike you, I was a bit disturbed by how it was going and had to look away a few times, hoping she would eventually get around to answering the questions. And even though I’m a Midwesterner (the media went on and on afterwards about how she appealed to us “plain talking folks") I was put off by the chirpy talk ("you betchas,” “darn rights,” and “ya"s instead of “you"s). In the end, she did give better and more candid responses to questions and less “recital talk.” It was amazing to me how much more favorably the media reacted than I did and I really wanted to be thrilled with her. I take comfort in knowing that when she’s herself she’s really good and I believe she will hold fast to what is right. That still goes a long way in my book!
Posted by Gwynne on 10/03/08 at 01:25 PMI didn’t watch (it’s SO much easier to take as history than as current events) but I did see the FoxNews group from Milwaukee. The group was divided evenly between undecided-leaning to Obama and undecided-leaning to McCain. The most startling result of their reaction to the whole thing was that 100%, yep, ALL of them, thought she won. Even one gentleman who said he didn’t think she was qualified for President said she definitely came off better than Joe.
Poor Joe.
NObama ever...McCain/Palin in 08.
Posted by on 10/03/08 at 05:07 PMDon’t even go there with the tax and spend Democrats, after the last eight years of tax breaks and spend Republicans. You can’t keep spending money on wars and banking bailouts if you don’t have the money (just so you know, that means taxing).
This administration has tried to pull off some kind of magic act, where they give everyone back their money and still afford to pay for everything. Simple economics, which used to be the Republicans strength, you can’t buy what you ain’t got the money for, seems to not matter anymore. But then again, the Constitution doesn’t seem to matter to the Reublicans anymore either.
Oh, it’s going to be wonderful seeing a Democrat back in office and America back on track.
Pop, you’re not exactly quoting the most honest of polling sources when you talk about results from FoxNews. Wonder how many cities and states, Fox had to comb through before they found the one that was 100% in favor of Palin? Just about everthing I read everywhere had Biden way ahead in the debate on all points. Hairdo aside. You can’t be serious, right?
Obama in ‘08! And in ‘12! Then Hillary in ‘16!
Posted by on 10/05/08 at 07:35 AMJust took a look at the latest Yahoo Election Dashboard and I see Obama has a projected 330 Electoral Votes to McCain’s 178. Hmmmmm....votes needed to win the presidency. 270. Can you say landslide?
