Dog-Crate Update

So after putting Annie’s bedding into the crate we coaxed her into it with treats. She went in pretty easily and didn’t seem too stressed about it. Beau would toss treats in there periodically during the afternoon. By the time she was ready for bed, she just walked in and curled up on her blanket. I closed the door and that was that - we had a peaceful night until she heard me flush the toilet this morning and let out a bark to remind me that she was in there.

She’s really mellowed in her old age. Just five years ago she would have fought like crazy to get out and barked the whole time in revolt. In years past she shredded bathmats that I placed in her kennel when I tried that. This is why I never tried a crate before and also why I wanted her to have a super large space.

Now I wish we had tried this a year ago.

  1. Yay, Annie! I hope that continues - but associating it with treats is always good. :) (And yay for a good night of sleep, too.)

  2. I was reluctant to treat her so much, but then I figured she’s almost 19 years old. A lot of treats at this point can only be A Good Thing. Especially since she’s been usurped by Jesse in my affections.

  3. Yay for Annie, indeed!  That is awesome!  Good solution.
