Disappointed
As you can expect, I am sorely disappointed with the election results.
I’m disgusted with the GOP Senatorial candidate here in Virginia, who lost to Mark Warner. Did the man even campaign anywhere? What a travesty.
I’m gratified that our incumbent Republican Congressman was re-elected - he’s fantastic.
The Republican party has some serious work to do to get back on track. At least there’s young hope in folks like Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.
Today I mourn and pray. Tomorrow it’s time to acknowledge and move on.
I was disappointed in the results from 4 years ago. Take it from someone who’s been in your shoes: You’ll get over it.
Posted by Pisco Sours on 11/05/08 at 09:29 AMKeep mouring if you are pinning your hopes on the likes of Palin.
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 09:49 AMI’ll be mourning and praying with you, Jen.
And then I’ll be looking for room in my backyard for the pony that Denis said everyone was getting. Cause I’ve always wanted a pony. I also need to find room for my magic beanstalk - another promise I believe I was given.
Posted by beth on 11/05/08 at 09:52 AMPisco, I remember the Clinton years.
beth, funny.
Posted by jen on 11/05/08 at 10:31 AMI mourn and pray with you also.
Beth, we’ve got room for a few more ponies at our place if you can’t find room.
Like you’ve already alluded to though, the ponies won’t be free.
Posted by Gwynne on 11/05/08 at 10:50 AMNot only am I disappointed I am scared. Some of our freedoms and our money are at risk of being taken from us.
Posted by Michael Morgan on 11/05/08 at 12:46 PMOh one other thing. Babies are at risk of being left in closets to die.
Posted by Michael Morgan on 11/05/08 at 12:54 PMThe sky is falling. The sky is falling. Obama was elected President. People, put this into perspective. We survived eight years of one of the worst Presidents in America’s history. We’ll do just fine under Obama’s watch.
And I’d like a free pony if anyone has an extra. I must have missed that stump speech by Obama.
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 12:55 PMMichael, hope you are joking about that last comment of yours. I assume this is related to the abortion issue, but I am not aware of any Ammendments Obama was proposing to the current Ammendment.
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 12:57 PMdenis, he was alluding to the Illinois legislation that Obama supported where babies who were born alive after a botched abortion are left to die - no treatment at all. In one specific case, the baby was put into a closet.
He also favors the Freedom of Choice Act, which will essentially repeal state laws restricting abortion for minors and also require federal funding for abortions.
By the way, we did manage to survive the Clinton years, so we will survive the Obama years as well.
Posted by jen on 11/05/08 at 01:12 PMOne bright spot in these dismal election results in the passage of Proposition 8 in California. So while I mourn with you the onset of socialism and the tax & spend administration on the horizon, I’m thrilled with the results on Prop. 8
My dad called this morning to make sure I got my name on “the list” for all these entitlements Obummer will be handing out by taxing the rich and giving to the middle class. Oh wait, I live in California where house payments are thousands of dollars a month...so I suppose OB thinks I must be one of the rich. Won’t this be fascinating? LOL.
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 01:36 PMKaren, come say it to my face that I’m a second-class citizen.
Posted by Pisco Sours on 11/05/08 at 02:53 PMHey, keep it nice.
No one said you’re a second class citizen, Pisco. There is honest debate about gay marriage - for folks on both sides it is a deep issue. For me (and Karen, which I can say since I know her), it is not just a moral issue, but a spiritual issue. I firmly believe that it is not what God intended marriage to be, based on Scripture.
Posted by jen on 11/05/08 at 03:40 PMExactly. You can already have a registered domestic partnership in California which gives ANY unmarried couple (gay or straight) a slew of “rights”...but don’t be trying to redefine an institution. Which is what California voters said in 2000, and they said it again yesterday.
And Pisco? I’m not calling anyone a second class citizen. Thanks for clarifying that Jen
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 03:47 PMRe: Bobby Jindal--I was just telling John late last night that I’m glad he wasn’t dragged into this with a spot on the ticket or any other high-profile position. He is now saved for another day, untainted by this defeat. Palin may yet have a future, but she will have to lug around the baggage of a poorly-run campaign and the smearing she got from the loonyleft. Jindal can appear fresh in two years to bring down the evils of socialism. Now I’ve got to run...gonna go apply for my handout.
Posted by Cathi on 11/05/08 at 05:03 PMDenis, your M-I-L was at the store on election day. Two women were in line ahead of her. One was telling the other about her visit to Manassas to hear Obama on Election eve. The other asked her, “How was it?” and the one who had gone said gushingly, “Wonderful, simply wonderful! It’s going to be so nice! I won’t have to pay for my house or my car!” So, apparently Obama was promising folks that the government would make house and car payments for us. I’ve already cancelled my payments--just waiting for those government checks to come rollin’ in…
Posted by on 11/05/08 at 06:05 PMJen, Karen… if you can’t see that you’re marginalizing me, making me worth less than straight people, then there’s just no hope for you.
Christianity just leads to suffering, slavery, and pride over everyone you look down on. Your god is an evil, demonic one that no decent person would ever worship. I’m through with it. I’m through with you two as well.
Goodbye.
Posted by Pisco Sours on 11/06/08 at 03:02 AMPisco, wow. I’m grieved that you feel that way and especially that you see the God you used to worship as evil and demonic.
