Blogathon 2005: Topics to Blog About and Thanks!

Blogathon 2005: LM Campaign Page

Money Pledged as of 8/1/05 - $285.00

See the Doing Good section in the sidebar for additional information
about IJM and how to make a pledge.

Incentives!!! Free Tea For All Reasons tea for anyone who sponsors me.
If you pledge up to $25, you will get one bag of tea.
If you pledge over $25, you will get two bags of tea.

I’ve started to realize that blogging for 24 hours will be hard. It’s going to mean a lot of mundane, boring posts. Two guarantees: I will be coloring my hair and two ceiling fans will be installed in the room where I will be blogging on Saturday. See what I mean? Then I thought that I could enlist your aid. So if you have questions you want me to answer on the blog, post them in the comments here. As long as the answers won’t reveal too much private stuff, I’ll be happy to field your nosey questions.

I have to thank those of you who have generously pledged to sponsor me. Please make note of the incentive of free tea for a pledge. Some of you might not care about that while others of you will. To the two anonymous sponsors, please email me with your contact information so that I can send you the tea when it’s all over.

And I’m trying to think of other things I can do to encourage you to sponsor me - aside from reminding you that you will be helping a very worthy cause - freedom and justice for those who have been sold and then freed from slavery, prostitution, etc. International Justice Mission is a great organization that is helping a lot of people to become free and adjust to that freedom after years of oppression.

Anyway, thanks again to my sponsors and don’t forget to tune in on August 6th beginning at 9am ET. I will be posting every 30 minutes for 24 hours, guaranteed.

  1. You write often about your daily commute, but I don’t remember any posts specifically about the car you drive. What kind of car do you drive? Why did you buy/lease it? What do you like/don’t like about it? What kind of car would you want if money were no object? What does Beau drive? Will your car needs change after you marry?

  2. Lee Anne, great to hear from you! I have been praying for you and I’m glad to hear how well you’re doing. And thanks for the questions - come back on Saturday for the answers.

  3. I’d like to hear more about the various places you have lived and which you liked best and why.  If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?  Which destinations are on the top of your travel wish list?  And not that I expect you to divulge specifics, but generally, where will you and Beau go on your honeymoon?  It would also be fun to know from whence all of your blurking blog friends come (e.g. are all 7 continents represented?  How about all 50 states?).

    There will be more… grin

  4. I didn’t hear about IJM until you started writing about it. I’m pleased to help such a terrific organization in my small way. The tea is just a nice bonus. Thanks, Jen! grin

I’m thinking up some other questions, but my first one is, “How did you first learn about the International Justice Mission?”

  5. And I still think it would be fun if Beau would help out (while you take short power naps) by blogging about political philosophy (e.g. Does man behave justly when he obeys unjust laws?) Or maybe he’d prefer to talk about linear algebra. grin

  6. Wow - you have a lot of $$ sponsored!  That’s awesome.  I was hoping the folks at Baristaville (a NJ blog) would sponsor me but only one person did.  Oh well.

  7. Gwynne - I’m not sure yet if Beau will be around while I’m blogathonning. He has an obligation in H’burg on Saturday night. Besides, he’s told me he’s not interested in blogging, which is a shame because I think he has a lot to offer the bgsphere.

    Jaynee - Crazy, huh?

All - good questions. Keep ‘em coming…

  8. Hair coloring?

Photos...we need photos! Before and after, at least.

I have thought about using the question thing for my attempt to blog for 24 hours, but my twist is to let people ask questions of Abbye. After all, she’s much more interesting than me. However, she’s also much more private, so I’m not sure I can talk her into cooperating. wink

  9. I’ll bet Beau is just worried that if he starts blogging, it will take over his life and usurp all of the time he’d rather spend with you. flowery

So, then, maybe you’d like to talk about linear algebra? wink Or political philosophy?  Or whatever your favorite classes were in college?  What made you decide to go into communication studies?  And how does radio broadcasting differ from blogging?

Posted by  on  08/02/05  at  04:19 PM
  10. OK, too many softball questions. Let’s get real.

Have you told Beau about your addiction to Kozy Shack Rice Pudding? And if not, when were you planning to tell him? (Oops. I guess that takes care of both questions. Never mind.)

  11. What color will you paint the walls in your new home together?  Are you a white wall person, or colored walls?  Or (God forbid) wall paper?  And then, the obvious question, “what color is the wall?” wink

Posted by  on  08/02/05  at  04:26 PM
  12. You guys are hilarious.

Given that I barely made it through the most basic algebra classes in school, I think I’ll skip the linear algebra discussion. At best I can spell it.

    Mmmmmm....rice pudding.

  13. Why not write about Annie and Mr. Kitty?  I love hearing about their exploits.

Posted by  on  08/03/05  at  09:03 AM
  14. Okay, so here’s a serious question (or two or three).  I’ve noticed that many of your blogger friends are Christians and many of them enjoy reality TV.  I am curious about your take on how Christian views are portrayed in reality television, and then, do you think contemporary films, books and TV shows have a significant influence on the “marriage” of churches with worldly views?  If so, how can this be used to advantage rather than destruction of the godly church?

Posted by  on  08/04/05  at  10:13 AM
  15. Perhaps I am the nosiest of all your readers, but I do have just one more serious question (a request really), if you’re still taking them...I would like to hear more about your gripes with Catholic theology.  Though my husband is Catholic, I have not converted because of my own gripes (thankfully, he does not pester me about converting).  I am curious if we share the same gripes or if there are new ones I should consider.  That is all.  Blog on!  Thank you!  grin

Posted by  on  08/05/05  at  06:17 PM
  16. Gwynne, really - you should start your own blog! You’re funny! You have gripes! I even want to know what color your walls are!  lol Regardless, don’t stop commenting here. That is my opinion. grin

    Jen, I have some questions.
    1. Which one of your fake celebrity boyfriends reminds you most of Beau? It can be looks or personality or both.

    2. What is your favorite kitchen utensil?

    3. Do you have a recipe that you would love to make every day, it’s THAT good?!

    4. If you were a reality show contestant, which show would you choose? I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s different from Amazing Race, because, after all, the bathrooms they have to use! The food they eat! The sleep they don’t get! grin

    5. When you are feeling low, what is the scripture you turn to most? What song/hymn do you sing?

Posted by Princess Jami  on  08/06/05  at  08:42 AM
  17. Jami, thank you!  I would enjoy blogging, but I have NO free time (what with all the time I spend just reading Jen’s and other blogs...I’ve checked yours out and you are the funny one). grin Laughter is the BEST stress reducer...that and a little prayer go a long way!

I was always a simple white wall person, until I tried colored walls.  Once you go colored, you can never go back! wink So now my walls are a myriad of colors...terra cotta, burnt umber, burnt sienna, basically warm crayola colors because it shows off the old Catholic religious prints that my husband drags home.  I tried one wall of purple just for fun and it literally made me sick to my stomach. :puker:

Hopefully, Jen will return to the remaining questions after she recuperates from the ‘thon.  smile
