Bedrest, Week Seven Begins

Thanks for all of the encouraging comments and prayers. Beau read many of the older comments to me and printed the most recent posts for me to read. We appreciate the prayer and support. If I had easy computer access, I’d probably post a lot of random and trivial things out of sheer boredom. In that respect, you should be grateful for the hospital-imposed self-editing. What I miss most is reading other blogs - I feel very out of touch and one of the things I’m counting down is when I’ll get home and be able to get on the computer and read about all that’s been going on in YOUR lives.

Anyway, I do have a few random things to share. Be aware that there will be a little TMI about the kidney stone, but the rest of the post is safe for the squeamish.

Still Speaking...

1. The kidney stone

I’m still passing pieces and sediment. They tested my urine the other day and this morning the resident told me that they did find a lot of bacteria and plan to test it in a day or two. I’ve had no further pain although I do have the occasional twinge in my back that tells me it’s still a work in progress. Also, with some thought, I’ve come to realize that the painful contractions I had with the last bleed were probably not contractions - that pain was in the exact same place as Friday’s pain, just not as severe, and was probably a precursor to the main event.

2. Work stuff

My boss told me yesterday that our front desk admin, whom I have depended upon to fill the gap while I am out, is leaving in a couple of weeks for a position at headquarters. While that’s great for her, it sucks for our office. It took two years to get her and we had her for four months and now face the possibility of another two year search to replace her. Not to mention the fact that she leaves as my maternity leave starts, my poor boss is already working very long days in my absence and I feel terrible about it.

3. The ultrasound

We had the latest ultrasound on Friday afternoon. Beau came over at 9 a.m. since we didn’t have an exact time set up at the testing center. We were eventually told they couldn’t take me until the afternoon. At about 3 p.m. I worried that we wouldn’t even get in that day and I had a mini-meltdown. Beau was great and took the initiative and went to the center to ask about a time and was told we would go around 4-4:30 p.m.

The thing is, I count on each little milestone to get through the week. So all last week I looked forward to the ultrasound as a marker. If we hadn’t gotten it, then it would have been a huge disappointment. Thankfully, we were taken at about 3:45 p.m.

Baby Jesse is doing great. He measures 5 lbs 5 oz and got bonus points for showing breathing motions with his lungs. We got some great shots of his feet by his head and the tech said he has hair!! No shots of his face, it seems he’s a bit shy. It was very reassuring that he’s a good size in case I deliver before Week 37.

4. TV

I watched the “America’s Next Top Model” marathon all last week. Count me a fan now!! I found it fascinating and I plan to watch the next cycle. This week I’m experiencing ANTM withdrawals because it was on ALL DAY EVERY DAY last week and it helped to pass the time. Now I’m back to watching “Martha” and “Ellen” and then alternating between “Judging Amy” and “Law and Order” in the afternoons. Editor’s note: I think Jen is crazy to not to take advantage of Netflix and watch GOOD QUALITY MOVIES instead of stupid shows like “JA” and ten-year-old “L&O” repeats. She has a dvd player and doesn’t use it. She’s INSANE. I’m looking forward to “24” and “American Idol” returning next week.

5. Blessings and a Prayer Request

We have been blessed by our small group in the past weeks. Many have come to visit me or called, and one couple brought a home-cooked dinner to the hospital one night. My parents have been a great help to Beau and, of course, Beau is the greatest. Also, Beau’s brother has come to visit a few times when in town visiting his own wife, who is recuperating from elbow surgery at her sister’s house nearby. I have been inundated with chocolate from pretty much every visitor who comes to see me. That probably explains the 10 pounds I’ve gained since re-entering the hospital.

I do have a request for prayer for our pastor and his wife. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and her surgery is scheduled for tomorrow here at this hospital. They plan a biopsy tomorrow as well as reconstruct and then will determine her future treatment.

In Closing

I’m hanging in there - I take it one day at a time. God has been faithful to give me the grace I need to get through each day.

Glad to hear Jesse is growing and healthy and that things are “moving along”.

Yes, glad Jesse is doing well. Does your bedrest time count against your maternity leave? Is there nothing they can do to keep the admin at her current post until you return? Nothing like adding more stress to your (and your boss’s) already stressful situation!

I’ve scheduled a visit for Wednesday afternoon which will be my third attempt to visit you and Beau. I’m a bit scared to come because on both prior occasions you’ve ended up with a bleed :-( and, as in baseball, a third strike and Jesse is OUT!

Glad to hear that all is going as well as can be expected. The baby is growing like a little sprout (hate to say “weed”)!

Continuing to pray for you and yours, and will pray for your pastor and his wife as well. I am a 12 year survivor of breast cancer so I know a little of what they are facing.

Glad to hear that all is well, if not comfortable (ouch!). Y’all are in our thoughts every day.

BTW, I’m a total ANTM addict. I’ve watched it the last few cycles and I love it. Jay says it’s way better than it has any right to be.

So glad things are basically going well (other than the whole “stuck in the hospital” part). I will readily admit to having been a Project Runway fanatic last season…I think it’s best if I just stay away from ANTM.

Now, riddle me this - what am I supposed to do with 24 starting this weekend and a slim possibility of the Jen-Recap?! Can you coerce your sister into doing them for you?

For anyone who is checking to see if there are any new posts: I saw Jen and my bro on Wednesday and I think my bro is the one worse for wear regarding this hospital bedrest! Jen was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and seems to have all this in its proper perspective. Beau is a bit overwhelmed I think, with his new class and the baby coming at the same time! But the both of them together with God’s grace and mercy can handle whatever life brings and do it with poise!
