An Update On Things

1. Our landlord finally came to the house yesterday to deal with the roof issue. Supposedly he had contacted someone to come out on Saturday - that person was a no show. Also a no show on Sunday. Anyway, it was nice to meet him and he got our roof fixed and also a sagging gutter in about 30 minutes.

2. We all got our ears lowered yesterday at Cartoon Cuts. Jesse did much better this time, but he did cry the whole time. There just wasn’t the squirming around in the chair and he had a death grip on my hand. He looks so different with his hair shorter and all of his teeth now - so much like a little boy. And still super cute. I’ll try to take pictures tonight.

3. I made my mother’s delicious zucchini imperial casserole last night. I figured a gooey casserole was a good way to introduce a new vegetable to Jesse. He scarfed it down happily. And the baked chicken and rice pilaf, too. I think it was the first real meal he has eaten that didn’t include any jarred baby food. Progress! It makes me hopeful about being able to feed him well on our California trip, although we plan to take some of his jarred favorites for the plane on the way out just in case.

4. I think our house hunt is back on now that we know we are not moving. Also I think the promotion position for me in my office is finally being opened this or next week. I need to update my resume. I wonder if we should keep the house hunt on hold until that position is filled so that we know whether or not we have more salary to play with?

[UPDATE (12:30pm)]: The job opp has been opened and posted. I’m working on my resume. The potential pay raise will be very nice indeed and will definitely increase our buying power for a house. If I get the job.

5. I’m really glad we have Friday off.

  1. So..."delicious zucchini imperial casserole” coupled with “gooey” = recipe? Please? Cause...yum!

  2. Yeah, I would wait for the promotion before you proceed. You are leaving town soon anyway and your entire situation/outlook may be much different by the time you get back.  Give yourselves time to regroup.

  3. I’ll post the recipe tonight.

Yeah, I think the house hunt needs to wait just a bit longer - the job should be filled by the end of summer. Then we can house hunt in the fall, after the military folks are done buying anyway.

  4. We are bummed you wont be moving our way.

With regards to taking baby food..you might want to reconsider taking it on the plane.  Pressurization does funny things to pressurized items.  Also - they do have stores in California..lol..just like every where else.  Not everyone out there lives on fruits and nuts.

  5. Carol, we’re bummed, too.

As for the food, it’s only for the flight since we’ll be in the air for about 5 hours - during lunch time. It’s strictly a back up in case he decides that regular food is unacceptable. We plan to buy what we’ll need in CA once we are there.

  6. Carol, I don’t think the small change in pressure on a commercial flight will do much to a vacuum sealed jar. Now, one time I did take a thermos bottle of coffee on a military airplane that was pressurized only slightly, opened it at 24,000 feet of pressure, didn’t think about it and sealed it up, then descended to land. When I tried to open it, it would not open at all!  I had to wait until we flew back, at the same 24,000 feet, to open it. I left it open that time!

  7. You may have already done this, but check what are the TSA rules on baby food.  I know that bottles of formula are not allowed through security… you can mix them up once you’re through.

  8. TSA changed some of the rules for babies/moms. Baby food is allowed. You just have to declare it when you go through security.

  9. I would definitely hold off looking for a house until Beau gets settled into something permanent. Whether it’s a teaching job, stay-at-home dad, or anything else. What if you close on a house and the following week, he winds up accepting a job in Idaho? I don’t see the great rush to find a more permanent home. I understand you want to try to have a second child and that could be driving this, but personally, I would hold off on the search. Just me.
