Training Day
Bill Whittle posted today about his first day on the job training.
Having had to endure this form of training every two years or so in my current job, I commiserate with Bill. What I appreciate about the folks in my office, though, is the mockery that ensues when the video starts up. Common sense and common courtesy go a lot further for most people.

This Blog is…
ESFP?
ESFP - The Performers
The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don´t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.
The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.
That’s really funny, since I usually test as an ISTJ on the MBTI.

Halfway
I can’t remember the link to get into the Ticklish Giggles control panel, so I have to post the latest update here. I’ll cross post it over there later.
So, this week marks the 20 week point in the pregnancy - I’m halfway! Woo!
My appointment this morning was uneventful. The doctor is pleased with our progress. I’m happy to have a completely normal pregnancy this go ‘round. Here are the stats:
Weight: So far I’ve gained a total of 13 lbs, which is really good. It’s so weird to me that I have a hard time managing my weight when not pregnant, but when I am pregnant it’s easy to control.
Uterus: According to the doc, the measurement of my uterus is right on track for 20 weeks. The top of the uterus is right above my belly button, which is getting shallower by the week.
Baby Activity: Off the charts in the past few days. This is a busy baby. The doc put the Doppler on my belly to listen to the heartbeat and immediately got a few thumps from baby feet or hands. The heart rate was in the 140s.
Ovarian Cyst: Looked the same in the last ultrasound. They still plan to leave it alone for now and will reevaluate at delivery.
I’ll have my glucose test after the holidays, for which I’m grateful. I plan to indulge. Also, I’m only 8 weeks away from increasing my doctor’s visits from every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks. That is amazing to me - it seemed to take forever to get to this point, but I have a feeling the last half will fly.
As for my sleeping problem - I have slept better the last few nights so I completely forgot to ask about help with insomnia.
[ADDED LATER]: Still no word on the sex of the baby. We got no cooperation from baby at the last ultrasound and the doc didn’t say anything about another ultrasound anytime soon. We have a shy, mysterious child in there, people.

Church and State Habits
Beau has an excellent post about Church and State Habits. An exerpt:
It seems to me that, like Esther, we each have a job to do, even if it’s not in a palace. Of course, voting in a little booth is a lot less scary than Esther’s approaching the king to speak the truth. But although our involvement in politics is limited, can our involvement be anymore unrelated to God’s plan than Esther’s? Can speaking the truth be secondary to “kingdom” work?
Go read the rest and share your thoughts with Beau.

You can read the whole thing here.
FWIW, I agree with him and I look forward to dressing up my kids and taking them out to get candy for me.

Random
2. I didn’t know until last week that Jim Zorn is the head coach for the Redskins. I totally had a crush on Jim Zorn in junior high school when we lived in Washington state. He was the Seahawks QB at the time and had a good passing partnership with Steve Largent. And he’s a solid Christian guy, too. Cool stuff.
3. Phenergan does it’s job really well. Too well. More than 12 hours after taking one last night, I’m still really sleepy and my brain will not work right.
4. My son is the cutest kid on the planet. His favorite phrase right now are “oh no” and the way he says it is hilarious. Also, when he really wants to share whatever it is that Mom or Dad are eating, he will give all of the baby sign language signs he knows in his excitement and desire. It cracks me up to be told, “More, please, more, thank you, please, more....” with some hand clapping included. He is the light of my life.
5. We’re making the switch to FiOS - I just need to call them to schedule it. Our cable bill is ridiculous and Verizon is running a special now that would reduce our bill by more than half for the first 3 months and then the monthly rate will still be less than Comcast.
I guess that’s it for now.

Six
Today marks the 6th anniversary of my blogging life. On one level it’s weird to think that something like blogging would become such a regular part of daily life. And yet on another level, blogging has become such a part of my daily life that I can’t imagine that life without the blog and the blog world I inhabit.
The one thing I cherish from the past 6 years is the people I have met, either online alone or in person. You all are a blessing and I’m grateful for the way you have integrated into my life. You have seen a lot of changes over the years - from my single girl days, to when I met and married Beau, to the challenge of pregnancy and the birth of sweet Jesse. I’ve been a part of two wonderful churches in those years - involved in youth ministry at one and the worship/music teams of both.
I wonder what the next 6 years will look like in blogging and how any life changes that occur will impact how I blog. I guess we’ll just have to see, right?
Thank you, faithful friends and readers, for your loyalty and continued presence here. I appreciate you.

When They Eat Things They Shouldn’t
Jesse has adopted a book from Beau’s office that when in the basement he carries around. It’s an old hardback that is missing the dust jacket. The linen cover is a lovely aqua color.
Yesterday he decided to gnaw on the spine. Quick thinking Beau snapped the picture below.
When I got home, I went up to get him from his nap to find this blue stuff around his mouth.
Silly boy.
