Jesse Pics

We managed to take a bunch of pictures of Jesse today. Here’s the best of the bunch.

Beau was telling me that he’s got this way of burping Jesse that works better than the traditional method. I was skeptical until Jesse let out a healthy burp almost immediately. Whatever works, I guess.

Also, we rescheduled his weight check appointment from tomorrow morning to this afternoon because of the pending snow/ice event overnight. Paranoid new parent drivers that we are, we didn’t want to miss the appointment or have to brave the roads if they are icy tomorrow. So...the little guy gained 5 ounces in the past week, which pleased everyone. He’s now at 7 lbs, 1 oz. Next appointment is Feb 15. Also, the doc said that we don’t need to worry about feeding as often overnight now - let him sleep. This is good for Mama and Daddy since he slept for 5 hours last night. We’re hoping that’s the new trend.

Movie Reviews: The Forgotten, Cars, Superman Returns

The Forgotten: This was on cable while I was in the hospital, but I managed to forget to turn to that channel in order to watch it. Instead, I watched the DVD from Netflix the other day. I liked it. It was not what I expected - it was darker and more mysterious. I love Linus Roache and if we have another baby boy, then Linus is on the name list. 3 stars out of 5.

Cars: Typical clever movie from Pixar. My favorite scene is when the minivan-mini car couple come into town looking for the highway and when Lightning McQueen starts talking to them they hit their locks. Hilarious. Also, the parody movies that the cars are watching at the drive-in at the end are fantastic. 3.5 stars out of 5.

Superman Returns: This one Beau and I watch while I was in the hospital. I kept forgetting to post about it. Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it. Don’t care if there’s a sequel. 2.5 stars out of 5.

Next Up: The Lake House

I Think We’re Getting It

Of course, I say that and something will happen today to mar the parental bliss. Of course, this could be the fatigue talking, too.

No, seriously, Beau and I were talking about it at breakfast (which he still makes every morning and for which I’m ever grateful) - we think we’re getting into somewhat of a routine with Jesse. As long as I manage to pump at least one bottle’s worth of milk in a day (I’m concentrating on The Other, More Natural, Feeding Method, which Jaynee doesn’t want to read about because it involves boobs), then Beau takes what we’re calling The Dawn Patrol. He gets up with Jesse in the 6-7am time frame to feed and change the baby. I get all other night/morning feeding/changings. So far, after several days of doing this, we both feel relatively rested and less stressed. I then pump when I get up an hour or so later. And I try to get a catnap later in the day, too. That doesn’t always happen and while I feel tired, it’s not complete exhaustion. Anyhoo, things are good in the Speaks house.

We are terrible parents, though, because we don’t take photos of him every second. I’ve been trying to capture him awake and alert - because he’s so stinking cute when he’s got his eyes open. No go, so far. However, here’s a beautiful shot of him in full on cry.
