Random Monday

Billy Mays, too?

Movies: Blood Work was OK.

Books: Shadow of Power by Stever Martini was pretty good, although I figured out the major mystery about halfway through the first chapter.

Food: Judging from the Roasted Mango-Chipotle sauce we had on our chicken last night, Bronco Bob’s sauces are awesome. I have a sample jar of the Raspberry-Chipotle sauce as well that I’m saving for some salmon in our future.

I’m on worship team this weekend. Our church is only having services on Sunday morning since July 4th is on Saturday. That will make things easier for our family. I have mixed feelings about it since it will be my first time back since having Molly Ann and also since our worship leader left. That is a whole long story about which I still feel weird. His leaving was a surprise and under odd circumstances. I miss him a ton as a worshipper and I know that I’m going to miss him more as our team leader. I’m very curious about what kind of person will come in to replace him - it’s hard to imagine anyone else, really.

I’ve posted a bunch of new items at Ticklish Giggles recently and there’s a new theme as well.

Happy Monday.

The New Normal, For Now

Warning: The following post includes discussion on The Food Source™.

I’m not sure how permanent this is, but now that I’m back at work and Molly Ann is requiring middle of the night feedings again, I go to bed much earlier. So it looks like this:

6:30pm or so - arrive home from work
7:00pm or so - squat and gobble (eat dinner)
7:30pm or so - nurse Molly Ann
8:30pm or so - go say goodnight to Jesse
9:00pm or so - head to bed with Molly Ann for a nap/cuddle
10:15pm or so - Beau wakes up MA and me for the bedtime snack nursing
11:00pm or so - drift off to sleep, holding MA

For now, the family bed is working and I’m not inclined to change that. Beau said she’s sleeping in the pack-n-play pretty well during the day (although he is wearing her a lot, too) and she napped well in the bassinet this morning after her early feeding. She was waking up in the 2-3am range for almost a week, but slept until 4am this morning. It made squeezing in a nursing session before I left for work a challenge, but we managed and she ate well enough. I’m interested to see if that overnight sleep stretches to longer again - that would be nice and I’d get a couple of hours in the evening to watch a movie or something.

As for The Food Source™, things are going very well on that front. She nurses well, even with the regular introduction of the bottle. And I’m pumping plenty of milk while I’m at work for the following day - I’m averaging nearly 11 oz of pumped milk total each day. It’s such a marked difference from my experience with Jesse where I was lucky to get 5-6 oz of milk total. So with that much bottled milk and 3-4 nursing sessions each day, she’s well fed. I’m thinking her weight gain at her next appointment will be better, too.

Anyway, things are smoothing into a routine now that I’m back at work. I’ll enjoy my weekend without the pump since I’ll be at home from Friday to Monday to nurse Molly Ann. And then we’ll start that all over again next week.

OBX 2009 in Pictures

We didn’t take as many pictures as we should have of our trip to the Outer Banks, but here are a few samples.

A Comparison

People have asked how similar or different Jesse and Molly Ann are as infants. Here are comparable pictures of the kids at roughly the same age, about 1 month old.

First, Jesse:

Now, Molly Ann:

The biggest difference is the hair - he had none and what he had was much lighter; she has a ton of dark brown hair that shows no signs of falling out at all. They both have the same hairline, though, and their swirls (cowlicks) are in the same direction. They both have sweet noses. Her lips may be a bit fuller. they both had dark blue eyes at the start - Jesse’s eyes are now green, so I expect that Molly Ann’s will be green as well.

What do you think?

Miscellany

1. My new favorite show is Pitchmen. Have you seen it? I have a whole new appreciation for Billy Mays and Anthony Sullivan. Sully is awesome and I think I’d buy anything he pitches. Mays is hilarious.

2. We head to the beach in about two weeks. I’m getting excited for the vacation, not so much because of all the fun things we’ll do, but for the time away with my family. And I’m looking forward to my cousin’s wedding at the end of our week away. Figuring out what to take for Molly Ann is a bit daunting, though. At least the feeding part is easy since she’s still on The Food Source™. Jesse is easier now that he’s in a regular bed and pretty much eating regular food.

3. The remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still is awful. Thanks, Uncle Bill, for the warning. We watched it the other night while the President did his presser. Of the two options, the bad movie was probably better and less angry-making. That said, the plot change for modern times retelling that I expected was present. Annoying and amusing all at once. 1.5 stars out of 5. The effects were cool enough to garner the star.

4. New Molly Ann and Jesse pictures:

On the Tube

In a follow-up to yesterday’s post, I also discovered that Verizon’s On Demand offers free viewing of some movies running on the premium movie channels. That’s awesome. Of course, they’re a bit older than the pay per view movies On Demand, but there are still some that I haven’t seen yet and it’ll be a nice way to fill in when I’m waiting for new DVDs from Netflix.

[UPDATE for Stupid Alert]: Not so fast with the premium movies. When you actually click to watch the movie, although it says FREE on the screen, what they want you to do is sign up for subscription to that channel. Sneaky.

Also, on some current TV:

1. I can’t believe that Coach is still on Survivor. He is so full of it and himself. I did love last week’s blindside vote though. The power has shifted.

2. I’m still watching 24, but I fear that the bloom is nearly completely off this rose.

3. Kris Allen is my new favorite to win American Idol. I don’t think he’ll actually win, but he’s the guy that I’d pick to win. Unfortunately, I think that Lambert (pronounced like Colbert in my head) is going to win. Ack.

4. I’m liking CSI with Laurence Fishburne. I was skeptical about William Peterson being gone, and I do miss him, but I think the show has revived itself with the cast changes.

In non-TV news, Molly Ann slept for nearly 8 hours last night. She rulz.

The Long Overdue Molly Ann Pics

I’m finally into the basement, wearing Molly Ann, and taking care of business. Much has been accomplished in the past hour - sales tax for the shop reported and paid, downloaded pictures from the camera, deleted shows already watched from the DVR, updated the Netflix queue (three DVDs get returned today).

Here are a few of the more recent Molly Ann pictures. She’s a cutie, if I do say so myself.
