Temporarily Closed (Now Open)

Since YouTube seems to be having technical issues today, I’ve closed the recent posts with embedded videos.

[LATER]: They are working again. As such, I present the following cuteness:

Sweet!

I was perusing the hard candy at the store this morning since I’m about finished with the Creme Savers I bought last week. I decided upon Lifesavers this time - mint doesn’t bother me like it used to, praise be - come on Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream!

Anyhoo, I usually opt for Pep-o-Mint but I noticed the new Sweet Mint and thought I’d give it a try.

I love.

Not too minty. Not too sweet. The perfect blend of sweet and mint. Sweet Mint!

Hell’s Kitchen: We Have a Winnah! Edition

Overall it was a 2 hour finale that could have been 1 hour, but I enjoyed it none the less and I cried like an idiot at the end because for all his profanity laden rants at the contestants, I thinkGordon Ramsay genuinely liked them and when he gets kind it makes me teary.

Inappropriate Snark

I’ve seen some snark at a few left leaning blogs about the list of things TSA is prohibiting to be carried onto planes in light of the UK air terror plot bust last week. I’ve heard passengers complain about the inconvenience of longer security lines, having to pack their toiletries in their checked baggages, yadda yadda yadda.

Inconvenience or death.

In this case, death is obviously an option. Call me crazy, but I’ll take inconvenience to live another day, thankyouverymuch.

To those who mock the list of prohibited items as seeming a little extreme, consider that law enforcement is still learning about the “liquid explosives” these terrorists were planning to use. Apparently, they are able to transform them into gels and pastes - much like your hair gel or toothpaste. Seems reasonable to me that these items shouldn’t be allowed to be accessible to passengers in the cabin until authorities know exactly what to look for. Overzealous? Maybe, but I’ll take overzealous to live another day, thankyouverymuch.

DHS head, Chertoff has said countless times in interviews that these items are not going to be prohibited forever.  It could well be that some of the items in the list will be prohibited for the rest of our travelling days. So be it. I’ll either pack it in my checked bag or I’ll buy new at my destination. It’s not a huge deal in the grand scope of things.

The Weekend

As has been the case, this weekend was a whole lot of lazing about with a couple outings.

First, Beau’s Sis arrived Friday evening to pick up Falcor. We convinced her to spend the night and then we ordered Chinese and just hung out. She left at about 10am on Saturday. I never did take a picture of Falcor - too lazy to get the camera. But he’s a sweet, snuggly little pooch and I enjoyed having him around.

Beau went left Saturday AM for the last day of the leadership conference. On Friday our pastor has issued an invitation to all and their spouses to meet at Maggiano’s for a late lunch after the conference was over on Saturday. I was very happy to be having a good day and made it out to Tysons Galleria (yes, we have a galleria). I arrived at the restaurant just as we were getting seated. From there we enjoyed a fun time, good conversation, and delicious food. I especially enjoyed the calamari fritte and mozzarella marinara. I ate really well and finished it all off with cheesecake and tiramisu.

Sunday we went to church and then lunch with Dad. Mom wasn’t feeling well and stayed home. Then we lazed at home before heading out for dinner with some of my college friends who came into town for the weekend. It was great to see them and they enjoyed meeting Beau.

And that’s about as exciting as the weekend was for us. I was happy to be able to eat well, keep most everything down, and actually enjoy food. Progress!

Leadering

I forgot to mention this yesterday…

My mother got a call from one of the staff at our church asking if she wanted to go to the Leadership Summit. Mom said she couldn’t go, but that Beau would probably love to go. So K2, as we call her, contacted Beau about it and he accepted the extra ticket. He missed the morning sessions, but arrived right at lunch time and enjoyed the afternoon. He’ll be there all day today and for most of tomorrow, too.

I love the Leadership Summit. It’s one of the best conferences on leadership around, imho. I went in 2001 and 2002 and learned a ton both times. Plus, I enjoyed the chance to be at Willow Creek; to see first hand this mega-church and learn for myself if it’s authentic or just a show. In my humble opinion, it’s the real deal and they are doing incredible ministry in the Chicago area.

I’m so glad Beau has the opportunity to experience this conference and the fellowship of the staff and lay leaders who are there from our church.

Kinda Chewy and Grainy

Following up on the post about the Hershey’s Kisses Coconut Cream, I need to tell you that I found them at the Target by my house.

I just now remembered that they were in my bag. After eating two, here’s my assessment:

1. They are all right - not awful, not great. I’d pick Hugs first, though.

2. The coconut center is creamy, but not smooth. There is a grainy texture to it, the coconut, that is a little odd. It’s not like the coconut center of a Mounds, which I think I prefer, even with the dark chocolate.

3. The chocolate coating seems too soft. If you press them too hard, the chocolate breaks a bit.

Overall, I think this product gets a 3 out of 5. Maybe. It’s more like a 2.75 out of 5.

Hell’s Kitchen: We Have The Final Two Edition

I have many thoughts about Monday’s episode of HK. First, go read Jay’s and Beth’s posts - both are heavy on the spoilers. Then come back and read mine, which you will find behind the link…

Back at Work

I was doing great until it was time to leave the house. After two sessions hacking over the toilet in 15 minutes, I took a Zofran. *sigh* And then on my way to work I stopped at McDonald’s, since my stomach was empty, and got a sausage biscuit and hash browns. Very tasty. I cannot tell you how hard I pray every day that this ends soon. Like next week when we officially hit the 2nd trimester mark.

Anyway…Beau is on his way to Carlisle, PA, to help his brother load a trailer with stuff from their parents (in California) that just arrived yesterday. They will drive it down and unload it all into our house. What we know we’re getting is:

1. Seven boxes of Beau’s books - most of them hardbacks. And I thought I had a lot of books.

2. Cherry bookcases with glass doors - we plan to put these in the dining room to use for my cookbooks and display pieces. Should look nice with the buffet.

3. Oak bookcase - we plan to put this in the basement, with all of the other bookcases and boxes of still unpacked books.

4. Tea Cart - not having a clue what it looks like, I’m still not sure where to put it. If it’s the right height I might try to use it as an end table in the living room. If not, then we will figure out a place for it.

I think that’s it. It’s a lot for our already full house. And we’re still expecting a lot of baby stuff from the Cooties.
